District in – charge Minister inaugurates Modern fish processing plant at Hoigebazar

fish processing plantMangalore : State Minister for Fisheries and Youth Services Abhayachandra Jain inaugurated the cold storage unit of the modern fish processing plant set up at the premises of Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation, Hoigebazar on October 12 Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Jain said that the plant has been set up under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana. Further, government plans to set up five more plants in the coastal district under the scheme.

He also said that Union Government will also permit for the fisheries jetties at Suratkal, Kulai and Kaup.

DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai inaugurating the modern plant and said that further Government will give priority towards construction of jetties and small ports.

MLA JR Lobo presided over the function.

Mayor Mahabala Maarla, Deputy Mayor Kavitha Vasu, MLC Ivan D’Souza, former president of the Corporation Nitin Kumar, former minister B Nagaraj Shetty, Managing Director of Fisheries Development Corporation VK Shetty, Fisheries Department Director HS Veerappa Gowda and others were present.

About plant:
The modern fish processing plant has been set up at a cost of Rs 6.50 crore with the capacity to process 16 to 20 metric tonnes of fish per day.
The plant has a cold storage capacity to 500 tonne, flake ice plant, trolley freezer and chilled room of 10 tonne capacity each and a plate freezer of 6 tonne capacity.
