Mangaluru : The Customs at Mangalore International Airport seized 2ooo grams Gold valued at Rs.52,90,000/- on Saturday, November 29, 2014.
Two gold Bars weighing 1 KG each was concealed separately in two mobile pouches and was kept together in a ‘M/s Flemingo Duty Free’ polythene carry bag on the floor beneath row chairs.
The passenger who was caught smuggling gold is identified as Abdul Manaf Akkoth, aged about 26 years, a resident of Madavoor, Kozhikode District in Kerala state. He had arrived Mangalore from Dubai at 8-40 PM. on 29-11-2014 by Jet Airways Flight No. 9W531.
Two other persons named Ratheesh, an employee of M/s. Flemingo Duty Free shop and B.S.Najeesh Raj, a salesman at Words & Worth book shop at Bubai Air port are also arrested as facilitators for smuggling the gold.
All the three have been produced in the court on November 30, 2014. They are remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is under progress.
