Mangaluru : The Mangaluru city police nabbed two persons who allegedly burgled a jewellery showroom and took away jewellery and other valuables worth more than Rs. 10 lakh in the city on May 13. The police have recovered the items.
Police Commissioner S. Murugan told presspersons here on Saturday that the accused, Mohammed Ifthikar Alam (22), a native of Rampur in Purnia district, Bihar, and Mohammed Sabeer (22), from Araria in Bihar, burgled Laxmidas Jewellers on Balmatta Road on Tuesday. They had taken away valuables including silver ornaments, a laptop, cell phones and other items. The accused had also made a vain bid to steal valuables from a travel house in the vicinity.
Presently residing in Bengaluru, the accused were also reportedly involved in cases of attempt to theft and assault, registered at Sampigehalli and Hulimavu police station limits there. While Alam is a resident of Devasandra Main Road in K.R. Puram, Sabeer is a resident of Shikaripalya in Bengaluru.
Mr. Murugan said a police team led by Mangaluru North Police Inspector Shantharam arrested the accused in Bunder. The accused were arrested during their attempt to sell the stolen items. They have been produced before the jurisdictional magistrate.
