Mangaluru : The Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy will submit a proposal to the State government to impose ‘entry fee’ on tickets sold for films other than Kannada and regional languages of Karnataka, on the lines of that in Kerala.
Academy chairperson S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu said on Saturday that Kerala imposed an entry fee between Rs. 3 to 5 per ticket on other language films in Kerala. The amount went to the Kerala Film Development Corporation, he said.
Mr. Singh said the Kerala corporation had used the funds collected in the last two years to set up 13 theatres to screen Malayalam movies exclusively. It has proposed to build 25 more such theatres.
According to information collected by the academy, the corporation collected between Rs. 8 crore and Rs. 10 crore in the last two years, he said. Mr. Singh said the academy would press the government to earmark 300 theatres in the State to screen only Kannada movies. Such theatres should get subsidy from the government.
He said the National Film Archive of India and Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, will conduct a one-week film appreciation course in Mysuru from September 21.
