Mangaluru: MRPL is observing Oil and Gas conservation month from January 16 to February 15, 2017 in association with PCRA. The inauguration of Samrakshan Kshamata Mahotsav (Saksham-2017) as a part of the Oil and Gas Conservation Month was held in MRPL on January 16.
H Kumar, Managing Director inaugurated the program and said that “the government has setup a deadline to reduce the country’s dependence on crude import by 10% before 2020. To do the same, alternate energy sources are being explored like, the increased use of Ethanol, Bio fuel and others.
MRPL is planning to set up 2G ethanol plant to produce bio fuel. He concluded by advising to sow the seeds of oil conservation by educating children for the better future.
M Venkatesh, Refinery Director spoke on the occasion and said that, “we need to create awareness about environmental protection and reduce our energy consumption.” Oil conservation pledge was administered during the program.
MRPL is planning a series of activities to create awareness about energy conservation during the month. It has planned to make villages in four grama panchayats ‘Smoke free’ by distributing LPG connection and kits to the identified persons belonging to the SC/ST and BPL families.
A cycle rally has also been planned in Mangalore on January 29 to create awareness about the energy conservation among the general public. An awareness campaign in the All India Radio has been arranged for creating awareness on energy conservation.
