Mangaluru: UT Khader, Karnataka State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister asked the concerned officials to submit a proposal to the state government to reserve Rs 5 crore funds to face any emergency condition which may arise following sea erosion during monsoon season.
The minister was speaking in a meeting held at DC office on Sunday called to discuss the necessary precautionary measures to be to face any emergency situation may arise during upcoming rainy season in Mangaluru state assembly constituency area limits.
The minister directed the concerned authorities to speed up the works undertaken under Asian Development Bank (ADB) fund of Rs 223 crore to construct the structures to prevent sea erosion permanently in Ullal and nearby coastal areas. If any issues found in the construction works under taken, then the project would be included in the black list and the concerned official would be held for the problem.
The minister has also directed all the departments to remain alert for 24 hours in a week to face any emergency situation in Mangaluru state assembly constituency area limits. UT Khader also asked the local bodies to setup 24 hour helpline to solve the issues of the people.
Speaking in the meeting, Dakhina Kannada DC KG Jagadeesha said, the people who are residing adjacent to sea coast should vacate their respective houses in the upcoming monsoon season to prevent possible disasters.The local bodies should ask such residents to vacate their homes and shift themselves to a new shelter away from the sea coast, DC added.
