Mangaluru : Thousands of BJP party workers take part in BJP yuva morcha organised ‘Mangaluru Chalo Bike Rally’ ‘at Jyothi circle against the state government and Comunal organasations like KFD, SDPI and PFI on Thursday, September 7.
The protests are being held to urge Karnataka state government to ban communal organizations functioning in the state for their alleged role in the murder of members of Hindu outfits.
BJP state president BS.Yeddyurappa said that Mr. Rai should resign as he had failed to control the law and order in Dakshina Kannada. It resulted in the murder of RSS activist Sharat Madiwala in B.C. Road on July 4.
BJP leader Jagadish Shettar said, “Congress led state government has failed to address the issues of the people and failed to nab the culprits behind the murder of members of Hindu outfits, senior journalist, social activist Gauri lankesh, aggressive thinker MM Kalburgi and others. Shettar also asked Congress leader why it failed to handover Gauri Lankesh murder case to central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Jagadish Shettar described Congress leader, Karnataka chief minister as clean chit state government as it gave clean chit to the accused including former state minister, Congress leader HY Meti even if all the accused in serious offences.
K.R. Ashok alleged that the State government has failed to control the murders of Hindu activists in the State in the last four-and-half years. They alleged that the PFI was responsible for some of the murders.
Shobha Karandlaje said, police should take strict action against organisations like Popular Front of India, which they term as “fundamentalist”, and district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, should resigne holding them responsible for the killings.
MP Pratap Simha said, Mangaluru is the soil of Rani Abbakka. But now Ramanath Rai is turning this region into a war field. He is the responsible for peace disturbances in Mangaluru, he said.
Senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa, Lok Sabha MPs Nalin Kumar Kateel, Pralhad Joshi, Prathap Simha, BJP leader Katta Subramanya Naidu and others spoke to the gathering. Karnataka state BJP president BS Yeddyurappa, MP Shobha Karandlaje and other leaders were present on the occasion.
MP Nalin Kumar said, the BJP will come to power and B S Yeddyurappa will become the Chief Minister. Many Hindu leaders have been murdered in coastal region but the Congress government did not take any action. Ramanath Rai is the responsible for communal violence in the district, he should resign.Nalin said.
More than 3000 BJP workers gathered at jyoti circle at 9.30 am. A heated arguments were between the police and the BJP leaders after the leaders speach finished. At around noon the procession started moving towards DC office from Ambedkar Circle and enroute the cadres and leaders were detained by the police.
Though police had permitted the BJP to hold a public meeting at Nehru Maidan close to the office of Deputy Commissioner the party workers chose to hold the protest in the circle.
The Dakshina Kannada district administration had promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 35 of Karnataka Police Act in entire district from September 6 to September 8, midnight. However, they allowed BJP’s proposed public meeting between 11 am to 2 pm at Nehru Maidan and no permission was granted for the rally from Ambedkar Circle to DC Office.
Later the crowd came to Nehru Maidan from DC office where Yeddyurappa addressed them. At Statebank police did a mild lathi charge. A activist injured in the incident and the protesters pelted stones on the police and broke glasses on the road. One of the police was assaulted by a protester when he was trying to take him into custody.
Several leaders including Yeddyurappa, Shobha Karandlaje, R Ashok, Jagadish Shettar, Arvind Limbavali, MP Nalin, Krishna J Palemar and Harish Punja were arrested by the police.
