G Shankar Trust Donates Rs 81 Lakh for Cancer, Kidney Patients of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal

manipalaUdupi: Well-known philanthropist, Dr G. Shankar on the occasion of his 63rd birthday on October 5, 2017 donated Rs 81 lakhs for cancer and dialysis patients of Kasturba Hospital in Manipal here recently.Through the G. Shankar Family Trust’ established in 2002, he has been engaged in realizing his dream of ushering in a better society free from pain and poverty. Since inception, the trust has been doing charitable service for the poor and the needy.

At the function, where he made his contribution to the poor he said, “Sharing part of my wealth with the needy is my motto and I will continue doing it till I am able to do so. Last year on my 62nd birthday over Rs 2 crore were donated to various hospitals in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts to take care of the medical expenses of poor patients.”

“This year while I am celebrating my 63rd birthday, I have decided to donate nearly Rs 41 lakhs towards medical expenses of 163 poor cancer patients and another rupees 40 lakhs for about 200 patients suffering from kidney disease at the hospital here,” he added.

He made these contributions in memory of his mother Laxmi Soma Bangera, who was also diagnosed with cancer. “I am thankful to Manipal University and Kasturba Hospital for their whole hearted support to all these initiatives and healthcare services,” Dr. G Shankar added.

Dr. (Col.) M Dayananda, Medical Superintendent, COO of Kasturba Hospital Manipal, Dr. Rajgopal Shenoy, Associate Dean of Kasturba Medical College Manipal, Dr. Avinash Shetty Deputy Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Mr. Ganesh Kanchan, President Moghavera Yuva Sanghatane Udupi were present on the occasion.
