Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Kavita Sanil defeated her rival Nisha Nayak on Sunday to win gold medal in the national level karate championship organised in Mangaluru city. She won the medal in the national level black belt section meant for the competitors with 65 kilogram or higher weight. Kavita won the contest by 7-3 points after a victory by 8-0 points in semi final round of the champion ship.
Indian Karate National Open Championship was organised in Mangaluru city by Self defence School of Indian Karate Mangaluru Dojo.
The runner-up Nisha Nayak won silver medal in the same contest while other two contestants Kavya and Pruthvi won Bronze medals. Karate cum power lifting player Kavita Sanil has won 58 gold medals and 18 silver medals so far at various national and international level contests. She participated in a contest for first time after a 9 year gap on Sunday in Mangaluru. Speaking on her victory, Mayor expressed her happiness and said, she was a national champion for continues 10 years from 1998 to 2008 and happy to become once again a national champion.
