Udupi Sri Krishna temple to get golden tower thanks to Palimaru Mutt seer

udupiUdupi: The Paryaya Peetha-designate and Udupi Palimaru mutt pontiff Sri Vidyadhisha Theertha Swami plans to offer a golden cover for the tower of the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Krishna Temple, Udupi.

Speaking during his visit to Mangaluru on Thursday, the seer said that his senior had offered a golden cradle, golden chariot, diamond armour and diamond crown to the presiding deity Sri Krishna. Following his Guru’s path, the seer wants to cover the sanctum sanctorum tower with gold. 40 gram gold per square feet is required for the same and altogether there will be a requirement of 100 kg gold for 2,500 square feet. The costs will come upto Rs 32 crore. The project will be fulfilled with contributions from devotees.

The seer said that ‘Laksha Tulasi Archane’, an offering of one lakh basil leaves to the Lord, has been planned in order to create awareness on greenery and environment conservation. The seer called upon devotees to grow more and more basil plants as the leaves cleanse the air. As part of the work of transliterating verses of Mahabharata in Tulu script to Devanagari script and to Kannada language, 40 volumes will be published during Paryaya celebrations.

The mutt has been actively involved in the field of education while midday meals are being provided to schoolchildren under ‘ Chinnara Santarpane’ programme. Six backward villages in Udupi are being adopted and medical facilities are being provided through the mutt, Sri Vidyadhisha Theertha Swami said. Savira Koti Rama Nama Lekhana Yajna (Writing Lord Rama’s name one thousand crore times) is also conducted by Palimaru mutt. The renovation of Sri Raghavendra Mutt in Kavoor, which is the branch of Palimaru mutt and the construction of a community hall are in progress, the Palimaru seer said.
