Udupi: Kasturba Hospital has been certified ‘mercury free’, for moving away from conventional mercury-based equipment to safer digital instruments.
Manipal hospital has introduced digital instruments, replacing blood pressure checking instruments and thermometers which are mercury based.
The digital infrared thermometer and dial type BP instrument are more accurate and do not cause any environmental danger. They have replaced 550 mercury based sphygmomanometer with digital BP monitors.
Avinash Shetty , Medical Superintendent of Manipal Hospital and C.G. Muthana, Chief Operating Officer, received the ‘mercury-free hospital’ declaration certificate from M. Dayanandam former Medical Superintendent and COO, Manipal Hospital.
