assembly-pollsMangaluru: Mangalore University has deferred its postgraduate examinations by about a week, owing to the Assembly elections on May 12.

It will have to make some adjustments in the dates in the draft schedule of undergraduate examinations already sent to colleges.

A.M. Khan, Registrar (Evaluation) of the university, told that usually every year the postgraduate examinations begin on May 8.

Considering the elections on May 12 and the counting on May 15, the university will have to postpone the postgraduate examinations by about a week and it could be from May 16, he said.

He said that as per the draft schedule of the undergraduate examinations, they should commence from April 24 and end on May 24.

The examinations of a majority of subjects will get over by May 10. Considering the deployment of college teachers for election duty the university would not be able to hold the examinations between May 11 and May 16. The dates of examinations in the draft schedule would be adjusted accordingly.

More teachers are deployed during the election day and in squads. The requirement of teachers on the counting day would be less.

Mr. Khan said that the university might add two more examination centres for conducting undergraduate examinations from this year.

A committee is now assessing the facilities available in two such centres tentatively identified. Now the university had 119 undergraduate examination centres.

Stating that about 90,000 students would appear for undergraduate examinations from next month, he said that the university has already conducted meetings with principals of Mangaluru and Udupi regions to discuss examination related matters. Meeting with principals of Kodagu would be conducted on April 3.

The last date of registration for students to appear for undergraduate examinations has been over he said adding that the university would ensure that examinations would go on smoothly.
