Illegal trafficking – 850 kg beef seized, five arrested

arrestingBelthangady: In two separate operations directed by the district crime intelligence bureau (DCIB) on Monday morning, illegal trafficking of beef was identified. Five people were arrested, and their vehicles and 850 kg beef was seized during the operation.

The arrested men and in addition items worth about Rs 14.25 lakhs seized from their ownership, were given over to concerned police station.

At the point when DCIB group was on duty at around 4 am on Monday, a Mahindra Xylo vehicle which reached near Guruvayanakere Junction was checked. The team found that three people were illegally transporting meat. Mustaq (50) from Kudroli Karbala Road from Mangaluru, Muhammed Kabir (38), from Goltamajalu in Bantwal taluk, and Abdul Jabbar (45), living near Water Tank at Thumbe, Bantwal taluk, were arrested. The beef which was seized from them weighed 450 kg. Five cellphones were also confiscated from them.

In another operation, a Mahindra Bolero vehicle was checked near Kukkedy on Guruvayanakere – Venoor Road. It was discovered that two people, M Ashraf (39) from Karinja in Bantwal taluk and Razeem (25) from Bunder Mangaluru were carrying around 400 kg of beef. The accused and the beef were handed over to Venoor police station. It is said that hamburger was being carried towards Mangaluru from Belur with the goal of selling the same at high cost.

After getting consent from the court the beef was buried. DCIB police inspector, Sunil Y Nayak, and other staff were also part of the operation. The operation was led under the direction of Dakshina Kannada region director of police, Dr Ravikanthe Gowda.
