Renowned Kannada poet KS Nissar Ahmed passes away

Ks Nisar AhmedBengaluru : Renowned Kannada poet and professor KS Nissar Ahmed passed away on May 3 at his residence in Bengaluru. He was 84.

He won the Padma Shri award in 2008 for his immense contribution to Kannada literature. He was also recipient of Sahitya Academy Award and Rajyotsav Award.

His notable works include Nityotsava, Manasu Gandhi Bazaru, Sanje Aidara Male and Manadondige Mathukathe. He wrote famous poems like On Sir C V Raman’s Death, Rain at 5 in the Evening, Gandhi Bazar Dawn and Masti. He also wrote several popular Kannada songs.

He received the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award, Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award, Goruru Award, Anakra Award, Kempegowda Award, Pampa Award, 1981 Rajyotsava Award, 2003 Nadoja Award, 2006 Arasu Award, 2006 Maasti Awards.

According to several media reports, he was recently hospitalised due to illness.
