Minister Limbavali warns of action against poor waste management

Waste management Bengaluru : Forest and Kannada and Culture Minister Aravind Limbavali has warned that disciplinary action will be taken against officers and contractors who are found guilty of mishandling waste management.

Limbavali was addressing a meeting on Saturday with officers, contractors and self-help groups to discuss waste management in Mahadevapura, his native constituency.

“We have received several complaints about the matter. In such cases, either the officers or the contractors handling the work will be held responsible,” he said and told the officers to immediately solve the problems of the citizens and prevent chances of getting further complaints.

The minister said that officers should confirm availability of land for contractors to segregate the waste after collection. “The officers should inspect the land and submit reports. They should necessarily withdraw the contracts of whoever does not have sites for such segregation,” he instructed.

Waste management After listening to the self-help groups’ suggestions on the topic, Limbavali asked them to continue to actively participate in the work and cooperate with the system for effective collection and management of waste.

Those who collect dry waste were advised on the methods to follow for increased efficiency.

BBMP joint commissioner Venkatachalapathi, chief engineer Vishwanath, superintendent engineer Kabade and other officers as well as local leaders attended the meeting.
