New Delhi: AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi caused consternation among Govt. circles here on visit to Orissa on Thursday by becoming the eye of a fresh controversy, due to his off-the-cuff remarks on terrorist attacks in Mumbai, and disclaiming responsibility for checking each and every attack by unknown armed groups.
He also said that 99 percent terrorist attacks had been prevented, for which he praised the steps taken by the Centre and reformed “intelligence” systems in the country. He accused some extremists that they commit violence when no one is wary about.
But in Afghanistan and Iraq, such terrorist attacks take place daily, he added, giving rise to some wonder among his listeners. He was of the opinion that it was not possible to stop such sudden armed attacks all the time, in spite of strong action already taken in the last two years.
Rahul’s comparisons outside India even in America, were odious. He claimed surplus success in India’s preparedness over unexpected (accident-like) terrorism exercises or armed attacks, by small men.
