Udupi: Village labourers on contract blocked the movement of a huge crushing machine on Sunday night(August 15), and continued their war with the defaulting contractor on Monday morning, by pelting stones in many places as the crusher was carried on a Mega Truck to be installed at the Indian strategic Petroleum Reservoir Ltd(ISPR) project, planned at Padur in Udupi Taluk.
The crusher came from Mumbai, moving on Kaup-Majur road towards Padur, but as the vehicle cut power lines overhead on Sunday evening, there was darkness and danger lurking at many places, as villagers stopped the huge Truck, protesting against installation of the crushing machine at Padur, where they felt it would affect their farmwork.
Window panes of the truck went broken. The Udupi police rushed to the spot of confrontation and took the vehicle carrying the mobile crusher in their custody, to book a serious case.
Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon told the Presspersons, that local(Padur) GP had passed a resolution not to instal the crusher, as contractor was polluting the atmosphere by blasting boulders in Padur, and taking the pieces by transport to other places, with no local benefits to GP.
