Mangalore: The Indian union Muslim League wants the government to rename either Mangalore or Bangalore airports after Tipu Sultan, the Tiger of Mysore.
The IUML has forwarded a memorandum to the Prime minister through the district administration in this regard.
In the memorandum, the IUML said a befitting tribute should be paid to Tipu who led India’s struggle for freedom who was also known for his secular principles.
On the proposal made to the Civil Aviation Ministry to rename the airport at Bangalore after Kempegowda, the founder of the garden city, the IUML pointed out that already there were several memorials for Kempegowda in Bangalore and renaming it after Tipu would be a good move.
If not Bangalore, at least the Mangalore airport should be named after Tipu, the IUML said. The IUML delegation which met the district administration authorities included C Ahmed Jamal, District Vice President, Mohammad Ismail, Secretary and Ibrahim Bengre, Secretary.
