Mangalore: A three Yakshagana extravaganza Yaksha Triveni was inaugurated at Town Hall in Mangalore on September 28, Friday by MLC Capt. Ganesh Karnik. The programme has been jointly organized by the Sri Idagunji Mahaganapathi Yakshagana Mandali, Keremane, Honnavar taluk.
In his inaugural address, Capt. Karnik said Yakshagana has played a very vital role in reflecting the ethos of Indian culture and tradition since ages. He also had a word of praise for the Keremane family for its invaluable contribution to the field of Yakshagana since three generations. He said the credit of taking Yakshagana to national and international heights goes to the Keremane family.
He also pointed out how the Keremane family had constructed an open air theatre at Gunavanthe in Uttara Kannada district with an objective of not only promoting Yakshagana but also various other Indian arts.
Veteran yakshagana Artiste Sampaje Sheenappa Rai was felicitated on this occasion by SK Bellubbi, State Minister for Agricultural Marketing.
In his address, Bellubbi emphasized the need to develop an interest in Yakshagana and the interest to learn the art in children.
Noted Yakshagana scholar and critic M Prabhaker Joshi presided over the function. Bhasker Rai Kukkuvalli, Yakshagana artiste delivered the felicitation address.
Monappa Bhandari, MLC, Kasargod Chinna, President of Konkani Sahitya Academy, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President of DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, B Ramesh, MUDA Chairman, Ashok Bhat Ujire, Member of Bayalata and Yakshagana Academy, Keremane Shivanandda Hegdde were on the dais.
