Kasargod : In a case of jail break, four under trials including a murder accused have escaped from the sub-jail of Kasargod on November 20, Tuesday after allegedly beating up the warden in the wee hours.
Those who have escaped are Mohammad Iqbal, Thekkan Rajan, Mohammad Rasheed and Rajesh. The warden Pavithran had been badly beaten up. Though there were three other jail officials named Ranjith, Umeshchandran and Rajeev when the incident took place, they were all sleeping and only Pavitran was wake.
The injured warden has been hospitalized. It is learnt, he was preparing breakfast when he was attacked with sickle and police stick before escaping in a jeep. It is learnt, three of them escaped by jumping the rear wall, while one jumped out of the front wall.
Of the three Mohammad Iqbal was behind bars for killing his wife and daughter, while another was a chain snatcher while Rajesh and Rajan were accused in a case relating to excise.
The police department has issued a look out notice in Karnataka and Kerala. A special police team led by ASP TK Shabu has been formed to trap the escapees.
It is said the Kasargod sub-jail with a capacity to house 28 prisoners had a total of 58 under trials.
