Speaking as a chief guest, noted folk scholar Amritha Someshwara said vachana writers had a vision beyond caste barriers. Their writings in simple language was quick in appealing to the masses. He also stressed the need for the society to look beyond caste barriers.
Additional DC K Dayananda who also spoke, regretted that the Vachanas of Ambigara Chowdaiah did not achieve popularity as that of Basavanna and attributed this to the fact that Lingayat society later developed into a caste.
