Mangalore : The Nitte Celebration Mangalore Half Marathon was flagged off Sunday Early Morning at the Mangala Stadium. N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University flagged off the Half Marathon.
The third edition of the Celebration Run was organised association with Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association and Nitte Education Trust, Corporation bank.
A record of 6000 participants and hundreds of school and college students apart from a few Kenyan runners had converged at Mangala Stadium for the Marathon.
The 21-km Half-Marathon and 10-km Run for men and women was organised by Life is Calling Sports.
The 10 km run was flagged off by MLC Monappa Bhandari. Corporation Bank Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Kumar flagged off the 5k run for college students. The 3 km run for school children was flagged off by Fr Wilson D Souza, Secretary Catholic Board and Yogish Bhat, MLA and Deputy Speaker.
Capt Ganesh Karnik, MLC, UT Khader, MLA, Dr Shantharam Shetty, Mallikarjuna, RTO and Fr Dennis D’Sa were present.
The prize distribution ceremony held after the event at Mangala Stadium, 21km half marathon and 10 km run were given medals, and top three winners in the same received cash prizes in men’s and women’s categories separately.
Prizes worth Rs 5 lakh were given to winners. N Vinay Hegde, Ramamurthi, General Manager of Corporation Bank, Manjunath Bhandary, President of Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association, Arun V Rao, Secretary, P B Mitra, Director Life is Calling, and brand Ambassadors of the event Anand Shetty and Vandana Shanbhogue were present on prize distribution ceremony.
Cash prize of Rs 30,000 was given to Kalidas Hirave and Shabeena who came first in the open category for men and women.
John D Souza, Deputy General Manager, Corporation Bank honoured for all the support he extended to the event.
