Mangalore : Various organizations under the aegis of ‘Jana Jala Vedike’ organized a jatha for water, in order to protest against commercialization of water and privatization of water resources on June 30, Saturday.
The protestors took a march from Kankanady to Thumbe Dam site. Renowned theatre and film personality flagged off the jatha. The protestors also took oath to oppose the government authorities to stop the privatization of water.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that such kind of anti environmental movement must be opposed by the people after uniting.
Protest organizer Vidya Dinker said that the water which is being stored to supply to the Mangalore City Corporation limit is utilized in large quantities by big companies like MRPL.
He also said that, apart from it, the government has promised MSEZL also to supply adequate proportion of water, which deprived the right of people of the district.
Further protestors moved towards to BC Road and Sarapady in order to create awareness on the same.
