Bangalore : The Janata Dal(S) members of Karnataka Assembly led by Former Minister H D Revanna today staged a dharna in the house and later walked out in protest against the government for hurrying through an amendment legislation relating to religious institutions.
The Bill, which was once rejected by the house, was re-introduced in the Assembly after it was passed by the legislative council on two occasions.
Mr Revanna urged the speaker to defer the bill, the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment (second amendment) bill 2011, till February 6, as the party members wanted to study the legislation and participate in the debate.
However, Leader of the House and Law Minister Suresh Kumar insisted that the bill should be carried through today itself and amidst the JD (S) members protest, it was put to vote and passed.
