Bengaluru : Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly G. Karthikeyan, who had been admitted to HCG Cancer Centre Bengaluru for the treatment of hepato cellular cancer (liver cancer) passed away on Saturday morning at 10.35 a.m.

He was suffering from liver cancer and chronic liver disease. He came for specialised treatment to the city and was under the care of a multi-disciplinary team of experts headed by Sridhar P.S., consultant, Radiation Oncology at HCG.

According to a statement by the hospital, his liver function had deteriorated for which he was on advanced liver support system and showed some improvement. However, his condition deteriorated due to multi-organ failure on Friday night and despite best efforts by the medical team at HCG, he could not be saved.
