Mangalore : KMC Hospital in Mangalore will be conducting the World heart Day Run 2012 in the city on September 30 in connection with World Heart Day celebrations. The rally will be flagged off from the TMA Pai Convention Centre at 7 am. World Heart Day is observed throughout the world on September 29.
This was informed by Dr Anand Venugopal, Deputy Medical Superintendent of KMC Hospital at a press meet in Mangalore on September 26, Wednesday.
Sunil Joshi, a renowned cricketer will be participating in the World Heart Day Run, while Subrahamanya KM, a national level walker will be the torch bearer, informed Dr Venugopal. He said Subrahamanya has won over 10 gold medals in state and national level.
Among other dignitaries who will grace the inaugural include Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Yogish Bhat Deputy Speaker, Manish Kharbikar, Police Commissioner of Mangalore and Krishna Palemar, MLA.
The rally will pass through MG Road, PVS Circle and Bunts Hostel Circle to reach KMC Hospital at Ambedkar Circle, Dr Venugopal said.
The valedictory function will be held at KMC Hospital the same morning at 8.45 am. Prizes will be awarded to Best Corporate Participation, Best Institution Participation, Best Placard, Best Slogan Shouting and Youngest/Eldest Participant.
He said a special awareness programme on World Heart Day will be held at the City Centre Mall on September 29 from 5 pm onwards. This would include educational and entertainment activities.
Dr Padmanabha Kamath, Senior Interventional Cardiologist, KMC Hospital, spoke about the Manipal Heart Institute. He said a WHD Heart Check Package 2012 will be offered at a discounted price of Rs 1600 while the facility will be offered to senior citizens at Rs 1300. The package is valid from September 1 to October 15, he added. Further treatment for patients who require other procedures, will be performed at discounted price, he said.
Pramod Alagharu, COO, Madhusudan Upadhya, Medical Superintendent, Dr Rajesh Bhat, Dr MN Bhat were also present at the press meet.
