Mangalore : The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at KMC Hospital, Attavar will be inaugurated on Dec 18, Tuesday said Medical Superintendent Dr Madhusudan Upadya, speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on Dec 18, Tuesday.
He also said that the PICU in KMC has been recently upgraded to a state-of-art facility as one of the biggest and best equipped PICU in this coastal region and has been expanded to 12 bed facility from 7 bed.
Dr Nutan Kamath said that the Paediatric Critical Care facilities are staffed, equipped and designed to provide the highest level of treatment possible ranging from close monitoring to providing advanced life support for infants and children suffering from a variety of critically ill medical conditions or recovering from surgery.
The compassionate team of doctors and nurses truly make the difference in the PICU. They co-manage or collaborate with other medical professional to provide complete care for each patient. The unit has 24- hour dedicated paediatric doctors cover. The nurses are also trained in paediatric critical care and are generally assigned to cover for only one or two intensive care patients at a time.
She said that children can become critically ill at any day or night; hence the PICU provides its service 24/7, throughout a year, so that we can respond, to emergencies whenever they occur and that expert staff are always on hand to offer advice and support.
