Law Minister Moily meets PM over Solicitor-General’s resignation issue
Veerappa MoilyNew Delhi: Union Law and Justice Minister Dr. M. Veerappa Moily met the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, here on Monday in the wake of Solicitor-General Gopal Subramaniam offering to resign after being upset with the government’s move to appoint a private counsel to defend the Telecom Ministry in the 2G case in Supreme Court.

According to reports, Moily, who reached New Delhi from Bangalore on Sunday night, discussed the issue with the Prime Minister.

Earlier on Sunday, Solicitor-General Subramaniam said that he had offered his resignation to maintain the dignity of the office he holds.

He said that he was upset about the way the Solicitor-General’s office was being treated by the government in the case involving the 2G scam.

Subramaniam, the second top law officer of the country, also met President Pratibha Devisingh Patil in this regard on Saturday.

According to reports, Subramaniam is understood to have spoken to Law Minister Moily and offered to resign in the wake of Union Communications Minister Kapil Sibal’s decision to entrust the 2G case to a private counsel.

Moily, however, has rejected his resignation
