Mangaluru: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated national level Karate event, Indian Karate Championship 2017 here in Mangaluru on Saturday. National level championship is being organised by Self Defence School of Indian Karate Mangaluru.
Speaking in the event, chief minister said, for the first time, Mangaluru is organizing a national level karate event and karate enthusiasts from across the country are expected to take part in the event. Chief Minister also congratulated Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Kavita Sanil for her efforts to hold such an event. Chief Minister also stressed the need of learning karate for self defence and suggested women to make use of it to protect themselves from sexual harassment. He also opined that learning Karate will benefit the children if they taught the martial art at the very young age.
District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, MCC Mayor Kavita Sanil, MLAs Moideen Bava, Abhayachandra Jain, Shakuntala Shetty and others were present in the inaugral session of the event.
