Bangalore: Lord Action could not be wrong when he said that power corrupts. Lokayukta has elaborated his age-old theory, to call the current Indian politicians as largely corrupt, selfish and narrow-versioned.
Those freedom fighters in the Congress movement for independence of 1930s and 1940s under Tilak, Gokhale, Gandhiji, Bose and other strong leaders, had disbursed their hard-earned wealth in the service of the country.
But modern politicians in free India have just wrongly used the national resources and economy for their own narrow selfish ends, most of the time, and they are in large numbers who got enriched overnight, Lokayukta pointed out in a meeting arranged to commemorate the 125th birthday of Revolutionary Ras Behari Bose, by ‘National Honor Protection’ Council Rotary Club of Bangalore West, and the ‘National Awareness; Service Trust on Wednesday in city.
The function also celebrated the Centenary day of Barrister Attavara Yellappa’s birth, and displayed a series of photograph of several revolutionary freedom –fighters of British times, in city on May 25, at the Town Hall.
That is the striking difference between those in politics then, and those in politics now, the Justice stated drawing a hard line between present politicians and those who sacrificed all their wealth under British rule.
Today, those in power loot the country at large thus impoverishing its commoners, he criticised. The people should realize the hard difference between the past and the present generations of politicians and change the latter.
The Lokayukta regretted the revolutionary fighters (like Subhas, Shyama Prasad and Savarkar) were being forgotten to remember only the soft form of Freedom fighters who conducted civil disobedience. The present day rulers do not remember even those who stayed outside India, fighting for freedom T.N Ramakrishna also spoke.
