Mangalore : A complaint has been lodged with the Pandeshwar Women’s Police Station alleging that a person named Oscar Mendes had cheated a young woman after collecting Rs 50,000 with a promise to offer her a good job at the National Research Centre for Cashew. The complainant Jagadish Poojari from Puttur has said his sister has been cheated.
It is learnt, Oscar Mendes had claimed himself to be the nephew of the Union Minister Oscar Fernandes and had said he would see to it that the girl got a job. He had even reportedly shown photographs of him with Oscar and also some video footage of him with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Initially, he had reportedly demanded Rs 3 lakh. When Jagadish was unwilling the amount was reduced to Rs 50,000.
Jagadish in his complaint said the accused asked him to transfer the cash to the account of one Preetham D’Souza who worked as sales executive in a show room in Mangalore.
Ever since the amount was credited, Oscar Mendes was not to be seen and could not be contacted, Jagadish said.
