Mangalore : State Governor and Mangalore University Chancellor HR Bharadwaj conferred honorary doctorates on three outstanding personalities namely Dr Kadri Gopalnathan, famous saxophone artiste, Dr Chandrashekhar Kambara, eminent writer and folk scholar and AB Subbaiah, the famed hockey player from Coorg. The doctorates were presented during the 31st convocation held on February 23, Saturday.
Dr T Ramaswamy, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, delivered the convocation address on the topic- ‘Education: For India of the Future.’ He said educational policies should have a hands on approach and educationists should concentrate more in this direction. He described the present generation as the next best generation of India.
In all 84 Ph.D degrees (Science-59), Commerce -8, Arts-15, Education -2) and 7 M.Phil degrees were conferred. As many as 36 gold medals and 55 cash prizes were awarded. A total of 60 ranks in various disciplines were conferred.
