Mangaluru: City Crime Branch (CCB) police in Mangaluru arrested 7 and seized deadly weapons, three two wheelers and six mobile phones inconnection with an attempted robbery case reported in front of Big Bazaar mall on Bijai-Kapikad road in the city on Wednesday evening.

The arrested have been identified as Mangaluru based Preetham Poojary (23), Vishal Kumar (23), Goutham Devadiga (23), Vinod Raj (21), Diwakara (29), Pravan (25) and Karthik (25). All arrested youths belong to the same gang led by trial prisoner, Sharan, a resident of Akash Bhavan in Mangaluru.

The police arrested the 7 accused near Big Bazaar mall located at Bijai-Kapikad road in the city when were on their way to execute the robbery plot at around 04.30 PM on Wednesday. The police arrested the youths based on a tip-off on a possibility for a robbery in the area.

It is gathered by the police that the accused were equipped to execute a plot for robbery according to the instruction given by trial prisoner Sharan from Mangaluru prison. The accused Preetham has already named in three criminal cases in Mangaluru while Vishal Kumar has booked for two separate criminal offences. All accused and property, weapons seized have been handed over to Urva police station for further legal proceedings.
