Mangaluru : We have heard stories about teachers going out out of their way to help students, however, Aithappa Naik, who has been serving at the Shri Krishna Vidyodaya Aided Primary School, Kanathadka, about 3 km from Vittal town in Dakshina Kannada district for the past 24 years, jumped into a 40-foot well in the school premises to save a goat that accidentally fell into it on Tuesday.
Aithappa Naik told, “As usual, I was in the classroom taking class. It was about 3.30pm, when a person rushed to me and said that a goat had accidentally fallen into the well. The goat belonged to D K Abbas Haji who lives nearthe school. I rushed out to see what best can be done. People had come with ropes and attempts were being made to save the goat by sending down ropes. The goat seemed to be very scared. There were a few people from the neighbourhood who offered to save the goat, but I realised that none of them knew swimming. I changed my clothes, wore a lungi and jumped into the well and managed to save the goat, he said.
