Mangaluru: City police on Monday, December 30 evening arrested a Pandeshwar resident on charges of sending inflammatory messages on social media in connection with the violence that broke out in the city on December 19 during anti-CAA protest.

Moideen Hameed (25) is the arrested person.

Meanwhile, the police have booked few miscreants and served them notices for forwarding the provocative messages on social media groups with the intent of disturbing peace in the region.

“Action against miscreants spreading communal hatred on social media underway in a major way.. A dedicated team of cyber experts are keeping a hawk’s eye on anyone fomenting communal disharmony anywhere on the internet,” tweeted city police commissioner Dr. PS Harsha.

In yet another tweet he appealed to people, especially youth to desist from sending or forwarding any message which incites communal hatred or violence. “Please keep off from such messaging as it is illegal and would be followed by strict legal action by law enforcing agencies,” read the tweet.
