Manjeshwar police arrested priest for stealing Temple gold ornaments

Manjeshwar policeKasargod : Manjeshwar police have arrested a priest for stealing the gold ornaments adorning the God’s idol of a temple. The accused Deepak Namboodiri was arrested in Tiruvananthapuram. The jewellery which he had sold was seized by the police.

The theft had occurred at the Manjeshwar Hosabettu Sri Mangesha Mahalakshmi Temple. The accused after stealing the gold had replaced it with fake jewellery. He was appointed as a priest on October 27 and had on October 29 told the guard that he was going to Hosangady but was untraceable. His mobile phone too was switched off. Later Sridhar Bhat of Siddapura was appointed the priest. On November 1, he suspected something amiss when he examined the gold ornaments on the idol and had informed the trustee. The temple authorities on inspection found the gold to be fake.

The accused had fled with five and a half sovereigns gold including two chains. A complaint was later lodged in Manjeshwar police station.
