Mangalore: City’s Shaadi Mahal in Bolar witnessed on Wednesday, May 4, 14 poor being united in wedlock, in a mass marriage ceremony conducted by Qazi of Mangalore, Thwaqa Ahmed Musliyar, without dowry demands of any kind.
Musliyar in his address discouraged Dowry calling it as curse on Muslim families.
He added that mass marriage event without Dowry, is a permanent solution for the welfare of poor girls waiting for marriage in the community.
Musliyar described it as a revolutionary step if marriages could be conducted dowry free, for which educating boys and their elders by discussions was basically needed in crucial periods.
The social function was inaugurated by Udupi Qazi Ibrahim Bekal. Mohd. Badruddin Chirman of Al Wafa Charitable Trust presided on the occasion.
Each couple received gold, cloths and gifts worth Rs.1.25 lacs. Several Chief Guests and people’s representatives wished the new couples all success, by gracing them in presence. UH Umar welcomed. G.M Haneef thanked the invitees. B.A Mohd. Ali compered the social programme.
