Mangaluru : BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel blamed the opposition for making false claims regarding the Union government’s flood relief efforts.
“Since the opposition has nothing to say about the ruling government in the state, they are making allegations regarding flood relief funds released by the Centre.
The Union government has released Rs 1,200 crore interim relief and has assured to release the full amount soon,” said Kateel, speaking to reporters after inaugurating the office of district minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary on Sunday.
“The former chief minister who is making allegations against the BJP has the experience of running a government. In the past, the state suffered drought and floods. Their own party was at the Centre. Let him recollect how much funds the Centre had released then ,” Kateel said, while hitting out at former chief minister Siddaramiah.
In a lighter vein, he said that the amount that the opposition parties have looted from the state would be sufficient for flood relief. “How much funds have the Union government sanctioned under calamity relief between 2009 and 2014? Let the opposition produce a balance sheet on the same,” Kateel said.
He expressed confidence that Kota Shrinivas Poojary will take necessary measures for the same. “I am confident that the minister will expedite the pending works and in case of any issues or problems, will solve the same. Poojary’s rich political experience will help the district rise high in terms of development,” he said.
District in-charge minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary said that he will spend every Monday at the office, and will be available to the public. “An experienced officer will be appointed to react quickly to the problems of the people and to expedite development works,” he said.
