Uppinangady (Dakshina Kannada) and Udupi : More than 2,000 arecanut trees and over 500 banana plants, coconut trees and cocoa plants have been damaged. The houses have also been damaged. The roof tiles of houses and asbestos sheets of the houses have bore the brunt of the rain.
The gusty wind has also uprooted electric poles and disrupted the supply of power in Valakadama. The electric wires at Gundije have been damaged. Meanwhile, several arecanut and coconut trees have been uprooted at Kunthoor and Perabe.
The disruption in power supply also affected the supply of water in rural areas. Houses in Badagakajekaru, Kavalamoodooru, Balthila, Panemangaluru, Punacha, Mani, Arala, Panjikallu, Tenkakajekaru, Navooru, Moodupadukodi were damaged when lightning struck.
Meanwhile, Udupi district received 21.3 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. Karkala taluk received the highest 26.5 mm rainfall followed by Kundapur (19.5 mm) and Udupi (18 mm) taluks respectively. The plantation crops at Mala village in Karkala taluk belonging to Gulabi Hegde and Padhbhanabha Nayak have been damaged.
The house of Narayana Poojary in Kavradi village and Sanjeev Sherigar in Woderhobli in Kundapur were partially damaged when the trees fell on their houses.
In Karkala taluk, two houses — one in Kananjaru village belonging to Ashok Shetty and the other in Neere village of one Asha Shetty — were partially damaged following the lightning.
