Ranganathan created a revolution of library: Dr. VG Talwar

VG-TalwarMangaluru : It is no small feat for Dr. S R Ranganathan to be a mathematics professor who worked 13 hours a day, seven days a week, for 20 years without a break, and to be recognized as the “Father of Library Science,” according to former vice chancellor of Mysore University Dr. VG Talwar.

After inaugurating a special lecture and birth anniversary celebration of Dr. S R Ranganathan, organised by the College Library and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of University College Mangaluru, here on Friday, he said that Ranganathan’s five point plan of introducing authors, making sure that every reader gets his book, making every book have a reader, saving the time of the reader and overall developing the library, led to a new revolution.

Presiding over the event, Principal Dr. Anasuya Rai opined, “It is a matter of pride that Dr. S R Ranganathan was a tutor in this institution. We are thinking of starting a separate division in the library after his name,” he said. Govinda Pai Memorial College, Manjeshwar Commerce Department Head Dr. Shacheendran V delivered a special lecture on “Research Publication and Ethics”.

College librarian Dr. Vanaja welcomed and gave introductory remarks. IQAC Coordinator Dr. Suresh extended vote of thanks. PG Studies in Economics Lecturer Shama mastered the ceremony. Student Harshita performed the prayer. Senior professors and students of the college were present.

Guests paid a floral tribute to late Dr. S R Ranganathan. Tricolours were symbolically distributed to the office staff and library staff as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
