philip mathewMangalore: At the SDM Law college in city on Friday in an RTE Act implementation programme, the resource person Philip Mathew informed that the Act was put in to post in 2010, Wherein the Government made children’s education up to 14 years age(8th/10th standard), compulsory and free.
If young people are not considered adults still they are 18 for voting righs, education should be extended upto 18 from 14, to raise their civic sense. The Centre merely passes Acts, as on child protection, without formulating infrastructure to go in to it.
Every school has 25% reservation for poor kids, but parents complain against the bad habits of such poor students which corrupt their own kids. There are 50 applications in Supreme Court to scrap the reservations leading to harm in society. The private schools abuse human rights of children, he said.
R.Manohar a human rights activist was chief guest. NGO reps and students took part in the discussions.
