Mangaluru : M.S. Rudreshwara Swamy’s manuscript ‘Avala Kavithe’ has bagged the Muddana Kavya Prashasti 2015 instituted by Kanthavara Kannada Sangha and sponsored by Patel Punarur Vasudeva Rao Trust.
Na. Mogasale, president of Kanthavara Kannada Sangha here said Mr. Swamy, a native of Davangere, has retired as assistant post master general with the India Post.
A postgraduate from Mysore University, Mr. Swamy ventured into writing after his voluntary retirement from service. He is also a recipient of Dak Seva Prashasti from India Post.
His first collection of poems ‘Preeti Mattu Neeru’ had received the GSS Award from Shivamogga Karnataka Sangha, while the second collection ‘Aa Teerada Mohakke’ received Kadenglodu Kavya Prashasti, Pu Ti Na Prashasti and Shoodra Patrke’s GSS Kavya Prashasti.
As many as 111 manuscripts were submitted for this year’s Muddana Prashasti and the award was finalised by a committee comprising Mallepuram G. Venkatesh, Vijaya Subbaraj and Subraya Chokkadi, the release said.
Instituted in 1979 after Varakavi Nandalike Muddana, the award carries Rs. 10,000 purse and a citation. The award would be presented at a function on January 26 at Kannada Bhavan, Kanthavara, said sangha general secretary Sadananda Naravi.
