Mangalore: Security has been tightened in Mangalore in the wake of the visit of Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to Mangalore on October 18, Friday.
The district administration along with the police department and SPG has inspected the site of the function and several meetings have been conducted so that there is no lapse of security.
The Congress on its part is busy putting up hoardings as well as publicizing the event. A huge stage has been erected and Sonia will be addressing Congress workers from DK and Udupi districts. About 20,000 partymen are expected to attend the meeting.
Several Congress leaders including Union Ministers M Veerappa Moily, SM Krishna and K H Muniyappa, opposition leader Siddharamaiah,KPCC President G Parameshwar, former minister Oscar Fernandes, Janardhan Poojari and others will participate.
The Congress has already formed a committee comprising Kallige Taranath Shetty, Ivan D’Souza, Shashidhar Hedge, Mithun Rai and Oscar to oversee the arrangements.
Parking facilities for vehicles of party workers have been arranged at the grounds at Milagres, Rosario, St Anns and Taluk Panchayat premises.
