Sullia : When D.V.Sadananda Gowda, a lawyer and farmer from Sullia taluk, has now became the Chief Minister of Karnataka by twists and turns in BJP state unit history, it is time for local rural talents to blossom and pocket 2 gold medals in the state Athletics championships, there in Bangalore.
In the 27th state contests in athletics, organised from Aug 5 to 7 in the capital city, where a cabinet of 21 was sworn in on Monday, Rebecca Jose of Sullia became a gold runner with 2 gold medals in two records set up today(Tuesday). She won in both senior and Junior categories for 100 and 200 metres.
Among boys, Samsheer (also of Sullia) took 2 golds with his sterling performance and ever better records, in triple and long jump events.
Rebecca ran 100metres in 11.8 seconds. She broke a record set up in 2003(12 seconds) by Bindurani. She again ran a 200metres race on Aug 7(two days later), to break another record of the same Bindurani, by clocking 24.3 seconds.
Rebecca was adjudged the Best Athlete of this state championship, in running.
