Two separate police stations start functioning in Mangaluru city

Mohammed Sharif Mangaluru: Karnataka state police department has begun its process to start two separate police stations in Mangaluru city for Narcotics and Economic Offences and to investigate criminal cases related to cybercrime.

The decision to open the new police stations in the city came in the wake of a notification from the state government on June 2, 2017 which directed the police department to open separate police stations for cybercrime and to investigate the cases related to economic offences and narcotics in Karnataka. The government notification reportedly came following steep rise in the number criminal cases related to drugs, cybercrime and other illegal activities.

The police department has appointed Mohammed Sharif as Inspector at police station for Economic Offences and Narcotics. He is accompanied by two police sub inspectors (PSIs), six head constables, 15 constables. The police station is located at second floor of Pandeshwar Police station in the city. City cyber crime police station will function in old traffic police station located at Bandar in Mangaluru city. The station has an inspector accompanied by 2 PSIs, 6 head constables and 15 constables. The city residents can reach the cybercrime police station at 0824-2220844, 9449020335.

The public can register complaints inconnection with drugs transportation, its consumption and sale, fraud cases worth more than Rs 25 lakhs, illegal lottery business, acid attack, human trafficking and others at the police station established to investigate cases related to economic offences and narcotics.

Newly established city crime police station will investigate the cases related to online fraud, defamation through online portals and social media including WhatsApp, Facebook and others.
