Udupi: Speaking in the city municipality monthly meeting on Tuesday, ‘Nagarashraya’ chief and local MLA who is supposed to work for allotment of land for landless to build their houses, Raghupathi Bhat observed that there was no land available in Udupi city for anyone and that only multi-storeyed apartment buildings can provide relief to the landless by distributing flats in them.
The administration had received well over 1,000 applications from landless citizens within CMC limits, he told members.
He pointed out that in Kodankooru, identified for construction of high rise flats in buildings, the Nagarashrraya committee could build 240 flats only. Some more projects could follow it. Even if private lands are purchased, houses will cost high, the MLA said.
A lady councilor pointed to the construction of unauthorized complexes in Laxmindra Nagar. A waste Manager presented the case of producing power from solid waste materials, and told that TAPMI would purchase this power.
