Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada units of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajarang Dal have opposed the State government’s decision to abolish the Goseva Ayoga (Cattle Conservation Commission).
Talking to presspersons here on Thursday, VHP’s Pranta Goraksha Pramukh Kateel Dinesh Pai said the abolition of the commission showed the State government’s lack of concern for cattle.
Mr. Pai said it was set up by the Bharatiya Janata Party government and M.B. Puranik was appointed chairman.
Mr. Puranik worked for a few months and the Congress came to power. The Congress government removed Mr. Purnaik and now abolished the commission.
Mr. Pai said that the Animal Welfare Board, which had been entrusted with the task of cattle conservation, could not carry out the task the way commission would have done.
The VHP and Bajarang Dal would stage a protest march on October 11 against the move of the district administration to hand over 26 cents of graveyard in Nandigudda to Noorul Islam Madrasa for building a burial ground.
The two organisations contended that the graveyard had for long been the place where Hindus, Brahma Samaj followers and Dalits were being cremated and buried. The organisations said the portion of land proposed to be handed over to the madrasa had the samadhi of freedom fighter and Dalit activist Kudmal Ranga Rao.
