Mangalore : Shri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple in Kudroli felicitated hundreds of widows on the occasion of Deepawali festivali on October 26, Wednesday.
The management conducted the ceremony to honour the widows who did not get the opportunity to be present on the occasion of Dasara.
The widows participated in ‘Chandrika Homa’ and pulled a silver chariot around the Temple premises.
On the occasion, Janardhana Poojary’s wife Malathi, managing trustee of the Temple participated in the oath taking ceremony with other women to perform the rituals even after theirs husband’s death.
She also said that the women’s must wear Kumkum on their foreheads and also wear mangalasutra.
Later speaking on the occasion, former union minister Janardhana Poojary said that the word ‘Widow’ must be banned and replace with the word that adds respect to their life.
He also urged the state and central Government to respect all women and have narrow-mindedness towards them.
He gifted the women with sarees, blouse pieces, kum kum and sweets
