Mangalore : The National level Aloysian Fest- 2014 concluded after 3 days of festivities. The valedictory program was presided over by the campus minister, Rev Fr. Francis D’Almeida, in the presence of the Principal Rev Fr. SwebertD’Silva. The chief guest of the function was Shri K GiridharShenoy(General Manager, Corporation Bank).
Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Shenoycongratulated the management and entire team involved in organizing the fest “Energy is everywhere but you have to direct it in the right direction. It is the management and the entire team involved in organizing events like this fest thatbrings out the talents in the students”
Stressing on the importance of education in bringing about change, he added “Education and knowledge make a difference in developing the entire personality. We have to anticipate tomorrow” As a parting advice to the young students in the audience he said “Keep your long term goals in mind. Don’t sacrifice long term interests for short term gains. Everything should come in time. Think big, aim high, anything is possible.”
Addressing the young people in the audience during the presidential address, Rev Fr Francis D’Almeida, the vice principal of the college, said he just had one message “Think globally and act locally”
The vice – principals of the all the streams, the staff and student coordinators of the individual fests, Aloysian fest Convener Prof John sherra , the president of the Student council PonnannaK T, the secretary Rashmi Peres, Speaker Hadley D’souza, were present on the dais.
The Aloysian Fest – 2013 encompasses fests of diverse streams such as:
ARTBEAT:The Arts fest had the theme ‘Gramyakala’. The venue of the fest was decorated to resemble scenes from village life, a bullock cart outside the entrance; scare crow and antique exhibition were among the main attractions. Beside the traditional events, tthere were the student organizers were dressed in traditional village attires: munduveshti’s, kurtas and cotton saris which added to the theme of the fest. An unprecedented 19 colleges participated in the fest to make it a grand success.
IMPRINTS: The Science fest which has the theme ‘revolutionizing the future’ has an emphasis on innovation. All the events were conducted by the bio science, physical science and computer science streams. A science exhibition with consisted of a working tesla coil, an application to vote from the comfort of your home and various working models showcasing the talents of the students were held as part of the fest.12 colleges participated in the fest.
SPIN-OUT: TheManagement fest ‘Samamelita’ had finance events‘Vitta’, a marketing event ‘Vipanlkriya’, crisis management ‘Sagkata’, best manager ‘VaraManasara’ and any more.12 colleges actively participated and have contributed to the successful accomplishment of the events.
ACME: The theme of the fest was the Iron Triangle, which is the theme this year. The political science term “Iron Triangle” was coined to define a special understanding between a government, bureaucratic government agencies and special interest groups or organizations.
The events organized were “Activist and Media”, “Commerce and Industry”, “Defence and Strategic Intelligence”, “Governance” and “The Consumer”. The festalso had traditional events like mock stock, quiz and crisis management. The concept of the ‘Aloysian Investment Exchange’ held was that the individual event scores are converted into cash and entered into a savings bank account in the ‘Aloysian Investment Exchange’. Each team gets one account, has an array of investments to choose from and they can invest in what they feel will maximize their returns. The team with the best portfolio wins.
ASTITVA: The Cultural Fest common to all streams was held on January 31 and February 1, 2014. It had events such as Variety Entertainment, JAM, Painting, Turn Coat and cultural events such as Classical Singing, Classical Dance (Solo and Group) which brought all the streams together to witness a distinct cultural extravaganza.
ALOYSIAD: A sports fest at the inter-collegiate level for men and women had events such as throw ball, basketball, softball and football tournaments is scheduledheld from January 30 to February 1, 2014 at the college grounds.
