DK police rescue 22 cattle, seized a truck and arrested one person

Nellyady-CattleMangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada district police, who have continued their drive against illegal cattle smuggling, have rescued 22 cattle, seized a truck and arrested a person near Nelayadi, early in the morning on Saturday.

The arrested accused is Nawaz, 27, a resident of Shantigudde, Mangaluru. Police said that acting on a tip-off provided by police personnel deployed at Gundya check-post, about a truck carrying suspicious cargo, Uppinangady police stopped a vehicle near Nelyadi, around 6.30am. While inspecting the vehicle, they found 22 heads of cattle crammed inside. One cattle was found dead.

Four accused fled from the spot, and a search is on to nab them.
Police said that the cattle were smuggled from Hassan and were brought to Mangaluru. A complaint has been registered at the Uppinangady police station.
